Soup Radio Closure

Dear friends and supporters,

After a lot of consideration the decision has been made to bring Soup Radio to a close. Our final broadcast will be on September 3rd 2011.

Soup Radio was born out of the demise of Brooklyn is Watching, and also the frustration I encountered being involved with ArtNation and trying my very best to get that project off the ground in the face of some vocal opposition. I felt that instead of endlessly discussing and debating what might or might not happen the solution was to just do something myself and make it a reality. I was determined to stick to what was promised when we started out, which was to deliver a schedule people could rely on every month, over time building up a quality archive of shows, and contributing to the ongoing dialogue relating to Second Life art.

When this project ends it will be one year old, spanning 38 individual episodes and totalling around 50 hours of content. Ultimately, I think it's wise to end a project while it is still alive and kicking, and if we were to go beyond a year we might start struggling to fulfil our promises. I was saddened at how Jay Van Buren's brilliant and important Brooklyn is Watching project deteriorated, in hindsight it should have ended at the one year mark (Jay's original goal), but it dragged on, the podcasts were released infrequently, and overall it lost focus and became confusing.

Everything we have achieved with Soup Radio has been made possible with the invaluable help and contributions from my co-hosts; Amy Freelunch, Penumbra Carter, Raul Crimson, Allan Stanley Taylor and Jane VippondAll the great guests and contributors who gave up their time and provided us with such a lot to talk about; Bryan Campen, Chantal Harvey, Dekka Raymaker, Honour McMillan, Elros Tuominen, Jeff Edwards, Khamudy Mannonen, Misprint Thursday, Nebulosus Severine, SaveMe Oh, Selavy Oh, and Treat KantoOur generous sponsors who have encouraged and supported us throughout and helped us reach a wider audience; Mab MacMoragh (Soup), Nazz Lane (Lane's List), and Roxelo Babenco (Museo del Metaverso). And of course our listeners; we know you're out there!

We're not quite finished yet though, our new shows are released on Saturday August 6th (details soon) and our final broadcast will be on October 1st 2011.
